LED lighting for homes and apartments: selection criteria and connection

LED lighting for homes and apartments

Beautiful silk curtains, multi-colored blinds, an interesting window layout, an unusual flower on the windowsill – these and other elements can attract the attention of a passerby who decided to accidentally look into the window of your apartment. But even more mysterious and alluring is the window from which the rays of heat flow, coming not from the fireplace or even from the stove, but from an ordinary table lamp or lamp. One wants to see the world on the other side of the glass, to find out who lives where such soft, so gentle and enveloping light pours from the windows.

Many interior designers of residential premises in their work use a wide variety of options for lighting and lighting using LED devices. And this is not their whim, and not at all a tribute to fashion. The thing is that it is LED lighting at home that significantly expands the variability in interior design, because the range of lamps, cords, ribbons and ordinary LED lamps impresses with its variety of shapes and colors.

  • Choosing an LED device

LED devices – this is not an ordinary chandelier or sconce, it’s a whole system of small, bright bulbs. That is why such designs should be selected not only taking into account your wishes, but also taking into account the size of your apartment or house.

    For a small apartment

For small apartments, the main thing is to visually increase the volume of premises, add a little fresh air and it is advisable not to go too far with all this. In this case, the brightest contour lighting of the ceiling and floor would be the most acceptable option. By the way, it is not necessary to highlight the floor, but if the rooms are made in the style of minimalism and there is not much furniture in them, then such an approach to interior decoration will be most welcome.

A cord or LED strip around the entire perimeter of the ceiling and floor will perfectly emphasize the depth of light and the interior style chosen by the owner. Be sure to purchase a light regulator – with its help you can adjust the color gamut, its saturation and brightness level. So you can choose the most optimal ratio of illumination from top to bottom. Do not forget about traditional lighting devices: it is desirable to illuminate the ceiling with small spotlights scattered throughout its area.

For a more daring idea, this option is suitable: to make two rows of LED strips along the ceiling contour, and to install a small ceiling lamp in its center – it is original and very creative. But even more unusual will look like a lighting system made of LED strip, laid out on the ceiling or wall in the form of some kind of figure. This design will give the room even more volume and depth. The same cords can be easily run on furniture using a hidden fastening method in the form of an opaque strip of plywood. Glass cabinets and shelves lit in this way will seem to soar in zero gravity, creating an atmosphere of magic and wonders.

Well, if you set out to originally equip your small kitchen, then LED cords and lamps will be indispensable in this matter. Contour lighting above the dining table or small LED lamps fixed in long tubes with small gaps between them will give the room a bright dynamic style, and the original decorative sconces near the sink and above the stove will finish the image with a delicate elegant touch.

So, for a small apartment, the main point in the design of lighting is the contour light and small lamps on the ceiling – the rest of the excesses will not be appropriate here.

    For a medium-sized apartment

Here, the designer faces a slightly different task – to create a beautiful and stylish lighting that emphasizes the advantages of the apartment. As a rule, a larger space gives more freedom for imagination, so many owners of such areas prefer unusual ceiling solutions made of drywall. Such designs are distinguished by original forms and allow you to create custom lighting compositions from LEDs. For example, a suspended figure located in the center of the ceiling in the form of triangles, ovals or circles will look interesting. LEDs can be placed inside the circuits and directed from bottom to top, visually increasing the height of the room, or you can place them outside, creating a frame around the ornate shapes.

    LED Ceiling Lights

A classic design of the ceiling design with LEDs is considered to be internal illumination along the contour of the room due to the small gap between the wall and the ceiling, which is formed if the plasterboard structure is not placed over the entire area of the ceiling, but with small indents from the walls. Such a system will raise the heavy ceiling and bring freshness and dynamism to the apartment or house. And on the remaining surface, you can place white rectangular lamps or compositions of LED strip in the form of circles, colors and other interesting shapes.

But the most interesting option is a completely mirrored ceiling with LED spotlights around the perimeter, and the more original the shape of the mirror, the more picturesque your interior will be. For example, a mirror surface with a cone effect will visually increase not only the height of the room, but also its area.

A medium-sized apartment is a real fantasy flight, it is a creative platform for the manifestation of your feelings and emotions.

    For bulky housing

On large areas, you can be creative in everything: create unique lighting compositions with different options for the saturation of tones and brightness of individual elements. As a rule, LED lighting of a large apartment involves a combination of colors and shapes, because here you can experiment with complex reliefs and multi-level pendant lights in the form of stripes, contours, circles, illuminated by ribbons.

An air partition with many niches, located between the spacious living room and the hallway, can also be beaten with the help of LEDs – a thin ribbon is attached to the niches and the light is regulated so that some elements are highlighted more brightly, while others, on the contrary, are slightly darker. Such contrasting glare creates an atmosphere of lightness, weightlessness and transparency. By the way, niches can also be “edged” along the contour – then the spots will become even more contrasting and noticeable.

Decoration of various contours with arches with illumination of each with a delicate blue shade looks very elegant. And the main white light can be “diffused” on the ceiling in the form of many small bulbs.

    LED Strip Lighting Scheme

    Scheme number 1

The diagram shows a two-level ceiling in a section. As a rule, for high-quality and beautiful illumination, a distance between levels of about 17-20 cm is sufficient. Exceeding or decreasing this parameter can significantly reduce the level of illumination in the room, or, on the contrary, the LED strip will become noticeable and will irritate the eyes too much with intense intense light.

The installation depth of the tape is selected taking into account that it is not visible from below – somewhere 2-3 cm from the border of the lower ceiling level.

For ease of installation, you can use a special plastic or aluminum corner, which is mounted on a double-sided tape.

If the room has a stretch, not a plasterboard ceiling, then the LED strip is mounted directly behind it. Note that the deeper you lay the tape, the less bright the lighting will be. You need to mount it on the same corner along the contour of the guides.

For traditional ceilings (no frills), a way to fix the LED strip directly to the ceiling baseboard is suitable. The main thing is that the skirting board should not adjoin the ceiling tightly – the distance between them should be at least 2 cm.

    Additional devices, connection

When choosing LED devices, focus on their power. Of course, with ribbons and cords, this is not easy, because you cannot know their consumption in advance. In addition, carefully read what accessories you will need to connect: power supply, wires, controllers, dimmers, and others. Sometimes a small piece of wire can cause a “braking” process. I have to drop everything and run to the store for this little “shred”.

During the connection process, it will be necessary to once again check the voltage and power to make sure that the system is working. And most importantly, all installation and connection rules must be strictly observed. Here, most likely, you will have to contact specialists.

Any LED equipment is desirable to choose immediately with remote control. This is especially important for large suburban residences, where, in addition to the house, the surrounding area is decorated with light bulbs.

LED lighting of rooms allows you to create a unique, sophisticated, daring, stylish, rich and simply beautiful interior, filled with light and lightness. An apartment or house decorated with such lamps is much brighter and more interesting than boring rooms equipped with standard chandeliers and sconces. Experiment, create fashionable images, be inspired and inspire others and your home will become the most desired.
